question about multiple network connections in win2k server

I have two connections in win2k server. Both 10/100 nics, one going to my main cable modem router (WAN) with a dedicated IP and the other going to another router that sits behind a different IP. My workstation (via zonealarm) is the only computer on the private network that is allowed to access the server, my roommates is blocked, along with everything else. On the WAN side, it is allowed to server http requests only.

If for some reason i disable my "wan" connection but leave the "lan" connection enabled, the server will route my web requests to the lan connection, even if i re-enable the wan connection.

Only until I disable the LAN connection, leaving only the WAN connection, will the server start routing web requests (both outgoing and incoming) to the WAN port. I can then re-enable the LAN port and things go back to normal.

WTF?

I think this is the same for Win2k, but open your Network Connections and then select Advanced -> Advanced Settings from the menu. Under Adapters and Bindings, try putting your WAN adapter at the top of the list (hopefully it's not already). This sets the default order Windows uses to try and communicate via the network. Not sure if that'll help, but it might...

yea, wan wasnt at the top of the list, so i put it there.

thing is, how can I make sure local traffic goes down the LAN port?

how do metrics relate to this?

Well I'm not 100% sure, but I'd think if it sees that it has an adapter on the same subnet/network as the destination traffic, it'll use that one. I honestly have no idea though, sorry.
