Question about Monster MX300 sound card with Aureal Vortex 2 chip

I forgot that I had this sound card. I was using the onboard sound on a Epox 8K5A2+ board and I'm thinking about throwing this card in the system instead.

Would I run into any kind of compatibility problems with the Monster MX300 cards under Windows XP? Any limitations with present games?

Would this card be an improvement over modern onboard sound chipsets?

TIA,

Sal

Yes, you will meet lots of problems.

But it's really good.

The sad thing is , vortexfofsound.com is down. :(

I'll be putting mine into a W98 "retro box" along with my old voodoo3, perfect cards for a system to play DOS and old windows games that don't play well on modern systems with Windows XP.

Ironically, the MX300 has much better DOS soundblaster emulation than my SB Live 5.1

Ok.. So keep it out of new systems with XP then. I thought that they were going to write drivers for this chipset for XP? What ever happened with that?

Thanks again.

Creative WILL NOT release vortex drivers. Some gurus at Vortexofsound planned to write the XP driver, I guess that's why that web site was shut down.

That's right.. Creative purchased Vortex. If you can't compete, buy the other company out and bury them. Creative. You bastards! You killed Vortex!

Vortex would have really had some nice sound cards had they not been bought by Creative. Crystal based sound cards are the next best thing.

I'm still using my MX300 on an older machine running WinXP SP-1 and DX9. I think I'm just using the drivers built-in to WinXP and I haven't had a problem with games, videos or music.

BTW, I'm using it on an old Asus board with the Intel BX chipset, so I wouldn't know about any VIA problems.
