Question about Molex

I was reading a review for the Antec Sonata, and in it they mentioned the newer version not coming with a molex connection spot on the back of the power supply, by back I mean on the back of the case, like where you plug the plug in. They said this can be very beneficial, what benefit does it provide?

Secondly, while thinking about how to ask this, I got to wondering about the naming of connectors as male and female. The male end tending to have the prong or whatever and the female end having the hole where the prong is inserted. Which is which with molex. The drives have the prongs on them, but yet the other end is actually inserted into the drive. SO would the cable end be considered the male end since it is the inserted end, or is it the other way around?

I think the drives are male and the actual plug (attatched to the cable) is female. Serial ports are the same way.

I suppose it would be more beneficial to those who needed more 12v power INSIDE the case and had no use for an external plug.

And male connectors are ALWAYS the connector with protruding contacts while the female connectors are ALWAYS the plugs with internal contacts. Not exactly like SEX, but more like anatomy.

It could be useful for watercooling with an external pump, other than that I have no clue what to do with the thing.

Mobobuff, so by your definition, the drive would be the male end and the plug would be the female end, yet in this case it is actually the female end that plugs into the male end, its just an odd circumstance
