I just purchased a new Santa Rosa Macbook a few days ago but I'm pretty unfamiliar with the hardware in this machine. I was wondering if anyone here knows what dedicated notebook GPU the Intel GMA X3100 is comparable to. Would it be about the same as a Radeon 9800 Pro or Nvidia 6600 GT? If anyone has links to concise mobile benchmarks, I would appreciate that also...thanks =]

It's more in the line with x300 or 6200 but we are talking about Intel integrated graphics here. Which means it has crappy support and bad performance compared to ATI or Nvidia.

I think the X3100 is capable of better than 18fps at 800x600 in HL2...as I recall somewhere it scored ~40-50fps at that resolution in the CS:Source stress test...you might be confusing this with the GMA 900 or 950. This integrated GPU is also capable of Vista Aeroglass so I doubt it's equivalent to the Radeon X300... Does anyone here really know?

Hey asdftt123, why dont you install the latest Intel GMA X3100 XP drivers (with T&L enabled) and download the Steam client to test the HL2 demo? Let us know how it performs!

The X3100 is NOT a gaming card, so don't hope for much. It's not marketed as such, it's for people who only need basic video capability at a minimum of battery use.
