Question about memory.....

I just bought an A64 4800 X2 to replace my A64 3200. Currently my video card is a X1800XT 512mb and I have 2gb, (4x512) all matched sticks of Corsair PC2700 ram. I'm hoping that will keep me for a while but I have a question about my ram. At PC2700 and being 4x512 sticks, should I upgrade my ram? Will it make much of a difference? The ram is currently running on an Asrock 939 Dual Sata2 in dual channel mode. The timing of the ram is 2.5-3-3-7 2T. I do game on my machine but will a ram upgrade give me much more speed? So it's a cost vs speed thing, worth it?

Not much more.

If you have money to burn, sure.

But it's one of those things where you'll likely never notice teh difference...

Hmm, going from 2700 at 2T to 3200 at 1T is starting to get to the point where it's worth considering. If memory serves (forgive the pun) the 2700 -> 3200 jump makes a decent bit of difference on top of the small 2T command rate penalty.

It's definitly worth thinking on, maybe someone has some benches squirreled away that will be of use.

No.....I don't have $ to burn but if the speed difference is a lot more than barely noticable I may do it. I can always sell the ram I have to off set the cost somewhat. I don't overclock so just trying to get my rig going as fast I can without breaking the bank. I'm pretty happy with the speed right now but I figure now is a good time to upgrade my CPU. I got the 4800 x2 retail for 290 shipped so I think I got an ok deal....at least for now.

I'd say spending money on DDR = bad idea these days

Now a C2D E6400 + some DDR2 2 GB kit...now that's not a bad idea though 😉
