Question about memory

I was wondering. If I buy overclocked memory, i.e. 667MHz DDR2 memory and put it into a Dell computer, will it be able to run at 533MHz? or will the computer not boot at all?

Thanks

The memory will clock itself down to run at whatever speed your system is running at. the 667mhz is merely a rating of the maximum speed that it can (and is warranteed to) run at. this is all assuming your motherboard supports DDR2. DDR and DDR2 are not compatible, IIRC.

Dont waste your money on faster memory. You wont see or feel a differance at this point. If anything buy MORE instead of faster.

I would agree if he had an AMD, but the Intel cores love memory bandwidth in all shapes and sizes and do show some benefit from it if the memory timings are tight enough. The only RAM I see fit for performance right now for DDR2 is OCZ PC2-4200EB. It's mighty expensive, but no doubt the best DDR2 ram on the market and it's performance is unmatched even at 533MHz Speeds.

Just like SLI though, it's mainly only for hardcore hardware enthusiasts. At least for right now until 1066MHz FSB's come standard.
