Question about memory

Not sure in which forumk this belongs, but here goes. I currently have two Kingston HyperX 256 MB DDR400 modules installed on my ASUS K8V SE Deluxe, with one open slot left. Now I want to upgrade to 1024 MBs of RAM. My question is, if it's possible/efficient to just put a HyperX 512 MB module there, or do I need to replace the 256 ones with two of 512?

I have the same board with a stick of Kingston as well. I think you should be fine just adding the 3rd stick, but in my experience with this board, it only likes top-of-the-line memory and it likes matching memory. Just be careful of this and you should be fine.
