Question about memory and mobos

I'm trying to decide what memory I need for a system I plan on building, but I'm a little confused about what type of memory I need.

For example:

Ecc
Non-Ecc
PC66
PC100
PC133
PC150

and then there's the DDR memory types

PC1600
PC2100
PC2400
PC2700

I know that the DDR stands for double data refresh (at least I think thats what it means) but I don't really understand the numbers attached to the memory. I've heard some people say that it does'nt matter what type I get unless I'm overclocking, and then on the other hand I've heard other people say that it does matter.

I'll be running an Athlon 1.4 (not overclocked)

can anyone help me decide what I should be looking at

you should check out crucial.com, they have an explination of all the memory terms there.

You should definatly go for the DDR memory the higher the number the faster it runs. i would get as high as you can. as for the rest of it. Generally speaking, you should go with non ecc, non parity, non buffered and CL 2.5 or less.

make sure your MO/BO supports DDR memory and see what they reccommed for it.
