Question about medical records.

My doctor referred me to see a specialist in a university hospital. That guy took a CT scan, and said I should follow up with my regular doctor in 6 months.
Will the specialist send the results of my evaluation to my doctor, or do I need to request that those records be sent back to my local medical group?

Usually, they will send the records, but a lot of the time they get busy and just forget. I'd call your normal doctor a month before the next visit and ask if they received them.

Thanks for the info. That sounds like a reasonable idea.

Did you sign any waivers?

I signed whatever they gave me. I think one of them had something to do with information or what not. I also went and got a paper copy of radiology report for myself just in case. But I want to get the rest of the stuff back to my medical group for the follow up.

The specialist will forward his report and findings to the office that sent him the referal as he will not be following you personally.

The only exception would be if you had a different pcp than the one that refered you in which case that doctor would neeed to request the records.

Walk into the specialists office and sign out the films, done. Medical records are your property, don't let them tell you otherwise.

P.S. Some A-hats will try to charge a copy fee for paper records, but most don't.
