Question about matching colors/brightness between dual flat panels

I have identical (purchased within a month of each other) Dell 19" flat panel displays.

Both are running on DVI from the same video card (Radeon 9700/9500 PCI Express series).

The secondary is a little washed out compared to the primary.

They have the same settings for contrast brightness etc...

Any ideas on how to get them to match up better or is this the nature of dual displays?

That will more than likely always be an issue with using LCDs for a multi-mon display. The problem is likely more to do with the backlights, and their brightness curve over their lifetime, rather than the LCD panel itself.

I have noticed a minute difference in the quality of the output from my secondary display on my R9200 AGP though. It could be the chipset or the supporting analog circuitry on the card. Using the primary (VGA) output for a CRT, and then the secondary (TV-out), if I disable the primary in the advanced properties, the TV-out gets a minimal bit sharper, almost like there was less overall loading on some sort of signal lines on the card or something. (Could be a power issue on the card overall too, perhaps.)

I've also heard issues about LCDs that have an auto-adjust setting for the analog input port, but not for the DVI digital signal port, but still may require the adjustment. In that case, connect each LCD individually via the analog VGA port, with nothing connected to the secondary, and run the auto-adjust, and then re-connect both back up the way that you had them. That won't help for the backlight issue though.

Is there such a card as that? Haven't heard of a PCI-e version of 9700/9500, and almost certainly not one that has dual DVI. Are you sure both are hooked through DVI and not VGA? Not saying you're a liar or anything, just thinking you might be mistaken perhaps.

I didn't think that DVI really needed to be adjusted like VGA does.
