Question about Mail In Rebates?

Oh alright so when i send the rebate under my name and then when I receive the check, can i transfer the money from the check under my name through a relatives bank account with the same last name?

Why don't you just give the check to them to deposit?

So you're saying when i receive the check that is under my name, i can give it to a relative who have a different name, and from there they transfer the money from the check for me? so, check from the mail in rebate doesnt is not restricted to only being transfered from bank account (if i had one) .

Sorry for asking these questions its just that i've never dealt with MiR's before and i would really like to obtain the money from the rebate..

someone told me i can cash the check, but what if im under 18?

I don't know about age requirement, but if you cash a check and you don't have an account with the bank, you have to pay a hefty service charge.

You can always sign the check and give to someone else you trust to deposit it in his account. (This is the concept of a "3rd Party Check.")
BUT some rebate checks have a restriction on 3rd party check deposit, meaning that they don't want you to sign it over to someone else. In all honesty, I don't know whether they would care or not.

Good questions you're asking.

I would also like to know whether it matters if the rebate and receipt names match. If you think about it, when you buy an item at the store, the receipt won't have your name on it.

Here are the two safest options:
1) Have your relative buy the item in his name, or
2) Open a frickin' savings account. Many banks have free savings accounts for minors.

Alright, Newegg.com gives me the option to change the name of the account holder. So do you think it would be safe to do this?
