Even when LTE goes live, don't look for LTE phones right away. We will see data devices like what Sprint/Clear is doing with WiMax. The chipsets will be too big for phones at first so we will see data cards and devices w/ LTE built in (laptops/netbooks/ipad?) before we start seeing phones. And afaik, Verizon already has a small LTE network live in Boston for testing.

It seems Boston is always one of the first to get the new networks cus they are very densely populated over there. It was one of the first places to get WiMax as well.

Apple can easily put in a CDMA chipset if it wants. But the way phones work in the US, especially with exclusivity deals and what not makes it a lot tougher for the iPhone to come to Verizon.

And honestly, the US does not dictate the cell phone market. The iPhone may have been a NA driving force, but for Apple to make a second model that's CDMA compatible, or make a new iPhone that only Verizon users would benefit from and then sell it around the world for lower profits is retarded. This is the same reason HTC decides to market 900/2100 phones and screw over NA users. Poor us.

Also the LTE rollout will be slow and painful like the 3G rollout. AT&T rolled out 3G long ago, but no one really gave a crap till the iPhone 3G put the idea of 3G in everyone's heads. And in the end you're really waiting for the LTE phones to come out and those will be few and limited until at least 2011 I'm pretty sure...
