I currently have an intellimouse explorer and while I like the hardware, I'm seriously disappointed in the software support for this thing. I remember about four years ago when I had a mac with a kensington TurboMouse 5.0 trackbal, I could chord button clicks together and program any command into any button, as well as have different application sets for the trackball so that (for example), the upper-left button would be "back" while I was in my browser, but would be "print" while I was working in Word. I really miss this. I find that 90% of the time, especially since I use Opera as my web browser (i.e. "back" thumb button not supported), the two buttons on the left side of my mouse go completely unused.
Here's my question: Is the software for the logitech mice (a) Programmable to any command for each button and (b) Programmable independently for different applications? I know kensington has an optical mouse out, but I don't like the layout all that well. However, if the logitech solution isn't appropriate then I think I may decide to go with usefulness over ergonomics and just get it. Also, has anybody used kensington's latest mouse software with windows? I haven't used one of their products in years and when I did, it was on a Mac so I don't know how stable it is.
I use Windows 2000.
thanks.
