Question about linking in a Word document

I have a long Word doc that I want to make a table of contents for, with links so I can jump to that particular place. Is there a way to do it besides creating a bookmark at a particular place, and then creating a hyperlink to that bookmark? i.e., can I do it like an HTML tag? This is in Word 2002. Thx

A "Cross-Reference" is what Word refers to as an internal "hyperlink". Using the Insert -> Hyperlink feature in Word only allows you to link to an external document, web page, ect. Using the Insert -> Cross-Reference feature of Word will allow you to insert hyperlinks to any of the following internals: Numbered Item, Heading, Bookmark, Endnote, Footnote, Equation, Figure, and Table. Make sure "Insert as hyperlink" box is checked.

Hope this helps.
