Question about latency

I'm planning on getting 2 X 4gb G.Skil Ripjaws PC3 1066. I'm deciding between two "sets", both are latency 9, but one has timing of 777-21 and the other is 999-24.

I don't plan to overclock RAM, so I was wondering which one is recommended. Is higher latency "faster" ?

Also, just curious what timing on another 999-24-2N means? It's the -2N that I'm curious about.

BTW, the Ram will install into A Gigabyte GA-970A-d3 mobo with an AMD Phenom II X4 970BE cpu.

Thank you in advance for any and all advice.

If I were shopping for high quality memory, I would use the following parameters as a guide...

* DDR3 rated at 1.5v or lower
* DDR3 rated at the lowest CAS I could afford
* DDR3 rated at the highest clock speed I could afford
* Limit the scope of my purchease to G.Skill, Mushkin, Corsair XMS or Crucial (non-Ballistix)

While not wavering on the voltage point, I would balance the other issues with my budget.

Remember kids my goal is not pure "benchmarking" performance, but simply finding the highest quality memory I can afford. ^_^
The only reason I pay a premium for low latency, high speed, low voltage memory is...
Quality and quality alone.
1.5v is the JEDEC DDR3 voltage standard.
Stay with 1.5v or less if you can afford it..

Thank you for the info. I'd specifically considered 1.5v because of what I've seen in forums. The lower latency is $2-3 more, so that's a no brainer thanks to you help.
