Question about Large Hard Drives and motherboards..

abit kt7a, WD 160GB 7200rpm, 8mb...

If I run linux, I can see the whole 160 GB, but in windows xp install I can only see 131GB (which is normal cause the bios reads 136 right?)


I tried an old 40 gig hard drive, computer was really fast etc...

with this hard drive it keeps lagging when something is being written to the hard drive (when I run a program and it loads files etc, the mouse becomes laggy)


what should I do?

You might have to install a utitlity from the Hard Drive Manufacuter to see the whole drive, what service pack do you run with Windows XP

The BIOS should see the drive as 148 - 150 GB. Sounds like you need to flash the BIOS.

Drives are sold as x * 1,000,000,000 instead of x * 2^30, which means you get roughly 93% of the advertised capacity.

im getting the bios update for my mobo to support 137+ drives.. ill post back with results..

sp1 after install, but will put sp2 after

Well this time it's a real problem, it's not "OMGWTF I BOUGHT TEH 160GB HD TO ONLY FIND 156 EFFIN' GB!!"

Bios updated worked! 160 GB recognized!!

Eurk! Game still lags though :(

120FPS all the way down to 10 some times when action scenes come up

Because those of us with over 5000 posts trying to help people get sick and tired of the same goddamn posts every day about 127GB limit.
The fact he had an old bios is irrelevant, its been discussed here for YEARS!!!
Any simple AT searcch would bring up the answer.
Any google search would bring up the answer.
Anybody here says I aint helpful better spend the next 5 years here posting (like I have since 1999) before you open your big mouth.
And I already have answered this question 300 times already.
Do a search for bozo galora
So all you newbies just STFU!

I dont come here for post count.
I have posted for over 5 1/2 years and 5080 is low for that amount of time.
I also dont post useless smarmy cutesy-ass stuff like you do all the time.
Like I said - put bozo galora in "author", highlight gen hardware and see if i'm upping my post count.
And in 5080 posts I have never asked for anyones help on anything.

I did not flame or troll, I did not even direct my post at anyone in particular.
I just implied my irritation about no one ever using the search function on the most often asked question on AT.
Once in 5.5 years.
The post did not deserve all the negative replies thus given, especially by people who dont give any help anyways.

So, if you dont like it, you can kiss my ass.
