Question about laptop processor upgrade

As far as I know, my motherboard in my HP zd8000 laptop has an LGA775 socket, where you can remove the processor and everything... just like it were a desktop. its an Intel 915i (?) chipset. My question is could I upgrade it to a Core Duo processor? Right now its an Intel Pentium 4 650, 3.4GHz processor.

Here is a picture of my motherboard.

Nope, if it's running a P4, it can't be upgraded to a core duo or core 2 duo.

That is not a very universal rule.

@OP: The overriding factor here is what the BIOS provided by your laptop's manufacturer will support. Sockets mean less than one might like in terms of compatibility.

P4=LGA775 pins on motherboard, core duo and mobile core 2 duo = socket 479 pins on CPU...there are NO mobile chipsets that support both P4 and core 2 duo..

Yep, forgot about that. Core Mobile chipset support started with 945M chipsets IIRC.
