question about laptop batteries

which says that you should pull the li-ion battery out of a laptop whenever you're using it on AC power to prevent battery damage.

isn't there some way to "disconnect" the battery from the laptop without actually pulling it out? (through software, etc)

also, you only have to disconnect the battery when it's fully charged and you're running on AC right? I mean so you can charge it while using the machine

As far as I know Li-Ion batteries are "intelligent" and don't overcharge themselves. Older batteries will.

I have heard that same thing - there are batteries and there are batteries - laptops and laptops. I leave mine in all the time and run A/C all the time - and do a battery calibration once a month or so. Have never had a battery problem with the last 3 notebooks covering 6 years.

I had my battery go dead on my dell due to this issue. Take the battery out if you plan on going AC for extended periods of time. I had mine plugged into the wall for months on end, in use each day about 12 hours. That's where the trickle charging and heat of your laptop really messes things up.
