I have a KT7A motherboard, with a 1.3T-Bird installed. 256MB RAM with SuperOrb installed on the CPU. Everything boots fine, but only runs for about 5 seconds then shuts down. I dunno what exaclty the problem is, but for some reason it won't even let me in the bios, I've tried resetting the bios, but still wont' work.

I think I'm going to send it back to Abit, but if anyone has any suggestions or ideas I would appreciate it.

Also running a 350watt HEC PSU.

Is the fan on the HSU spinning? Is it plugged into the CORRECT motherboard header? Read the manual, but I believe it's supposed to be plugged into header #1. The KT7A has a no-fan/dead fan autoshutdown feature.

Yeah all the fans are plugged in and working. Fan on the board and CPU both spin up fine. I'm thinking it's heat related, or just needs to have a capaciter fixed. I'm going to send back to Abit, and let them look at it.

How long has the board been installed in the case, and have you moved any thing around lately? What I'm getting at is that the board might be shorting out against teh case somewhere. I.E. maybe you have an extra standoff installed or a PCI card screw rolled under the board?

Took it out of the case too, still doing the same thing, just started doing this here lately. Was running smooth for a couple of years. I'll check for a short though.

Oh...that's not a good sign, but you knew that already. :( Sounds like it may be time for an upgrade, my friend. :) BTW, what kind of PS are you running? Is it an older no-name, or a semi-snazzy PS?

It's an HEC PSU, just like the one I have on my main rig, except it's 350watt psu, which should be more than enough for what I'm running in this box, just a 8x4x24 writer, and 32x cd rom. I don't even have all that stuff hooked up, cause I think the board is the prob. I just filled out for an RMA from them, they'll fix it for $25, so heck why not?
