Question about Klipsch ProMedia 5.1/Logitech Z-680's 5.1 sets

Hi,

Finally saved enough money to purchase one of these babies and I need some help deciding which one...

the reviews on each say they are both great...any opinions?

I will mostly use it for listening to MP3 music with some DVD and Divx movies...

My main concern is how the 2-channel upmix to Dolby ProLogic sounds because I've heard everything from "2 channel sound coming from all speakers is really a nice feature and it sounds really good" and some people say "it makes it sound hollow and unnatural"...any more details on the situation?

I would REALLY like Dolby ProLogic II that because since I don't really listen to much "true 5.1" stuff like DVD's, I'll need it for TV (sports especially), games, and Mp3/Divx Audio.

Thanks.

don't get the Klipsch.
i can't stress that enough.

I've owned both, and I can tell you that the Klipsches might sound great if you listen to them at relatively low volumes, but after a short tim, they start to crap out, and they can't handle volumes that the Logitech ones can, especially with regards to the subwoofer. the logitech sub can go lower, and hit harder, than the Klipsch sub... and eventually, those Klipsch tweeters will start to tear your ears off with their screeching, and/or stop working entirely.

Get the Logitechs. (if nothing else, get them for the Dolby decoder)

^^^ I agree with what he said...

I bought the Klipsch shortly before the Z-680's hit the market and now they are dead less than a year later. The sub blew a capacitor and will no longer supply power to any of the other speakers. :frown:

that's good advice...so no more klipsch for me since everywhere ive asked i've gotten pretty much the same response plus the logitech's are cheaper...

so does anyone know about dolby prologic II, because i'll be needing that especially??

Hmm..I don't know. I've heard the 680s, and while they are superb speakers, their highs aren't quite as sharp as Klipsch's. (some people like the hotter sound, others don't) Klipsch is releasing the Ultra's soon. You might want to take a look at them. Either way, you can't go wrong. Just be sure to purchase a Toslink connector if you want to use the Logitech decoder for Dolby/DTS functions. Cheers!

i've got a Klipsch... 😀 had em for about a year now and they've been fine at all volumes. Klipsch even extended my warranty two years... someone here RMAd theirs and he got back the new Ultras. The only thing i like about the Z-680s is the built in decoder... other than that i'm happy with my ProMedias... 🙂

Why do I need a TOSlink, can't I have any optical connector??

**BTW, Bought SOME Logitech Z-680's today and I luv them...they do all the decoding i need while still sounding great...wish the highs were a little better but other than that...i luv it..
