Question about Kitten training....

Turkish

Lifer
Hey all, probably some of you remember my 5 week old kitten from Saturday 😛 Anyways, I think she got used to the litterbox, but there are 2 questions in my mind.

1. She sometimes do and sometimes do not cover her poop after she is done with it. Is this a problem sign or just because she is a kitten?
2. Man she is a sh!tty pooper 😛 She poops and its all over her tail, I think she swings her tail to the poop afterwards 🙂 How do they clean themselves up? I am cleaning her butt & tail with a wet towel for now. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Xiety, you sound like a proud owner. 😀

1. It's normal, especially at a young age. My cat is about 7yrs and sometimes she still doesn't cover her poo (I think she does it on purpose tho, that bish! ). Try taking her paws and swipe the litter over with them.

2. I've never experienced that before! It's most likely due to her young age, she'll eventually become more careful.

1. My cat is 1yr old and never has covered her poo. And man some days she can clear the room.

2. When she gets older she will be more careful. Mine has to stay clean, she hates to have litter between her toes. She'll sit and scrap the side of the litterbox for 5 minutes straight till she gets it all off

sometimes they do, sometimes they dont. if they dont spend most of their time in that particular room, then from my experience they wont cover it up unless u show them that u want them to cover it up. train them!

The covering think is learned behavior for the most part, as was said you need to show her how to do it if her mom didn't show her.

The dirty part is just being young, mine didn't learn how to bathe herself until about 6 months, so she got frequent baths and is used to them at 5.

*sigh*

Must I teach all of you EVERYTHING?

1. Buy a cattle prod

2. Observe cat behavior
2a. Cat is good = no action on your part
2b. Cat is BAD = Three successive sticks with the cattle prod followed up by a verbal
[cartman]NO kitty! That's a BAD KITTY!!!![/cartman] from you

It's actually very simple. Failing the above working, a good, swift punt with a size 11 workboot usually works very quickly.

Cats are evil. Like Children.

Was her litter box completely empty, or was there a few droppings, etc.? Chances are she'll only bury her business in a empty (read: clean) box. Your cat doesn't think of her litter box as a toilet per se, but rather an "area" she uses. If the box contains a few droppings, she's unlikely to bother burying more. That said, some cats always bury their shite, others don't.

If she makes a mess on herself, just clean her off as best you can.

Regardless of how she cleans up after herself, make sure that you clean her litter box at least once per day.

After you've had any contact with her backside, or her litter box, make sure you wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap.

Good luck!

Cats are evil, Children are evil, women are evil... is there anything in life that you like anymore? 😛

She's a baby. She'll improve as she gets older. When Banshee was kitten, he'd step in his poo and leave little poo pawprints all over. As he got older he learned and he grew out of it.

Thanks for all the responses people 🙂 It's weird. She covers her poop half of the time, oh well, I guess I'll get used to it 🙂

Another question I have is, what do you call those things that you put under the litterbox, so when she gets out of it, it picks the litter from her paws? 🙂

Thanks again 🙂

fly paper>?

That kitten does better at 5 weeks than I would have 🙂

It is just a baby - it will get more fastidious as time goes on.

PICS?
