Question about internship

As many of you know I'm currently at Grove City College in Grove City, PA as an EE major. This fall I will be transferring to the University of Pittsburgh as a CoE major. Last fall here at Grove City I had an interview with the president of a company that's only about 20 minutes away from my home. The interview was for a possible internship this summer and the president was a Grove City College alumni. The interview went well and he showed interest.

Today, I'm very excited because I got an email from a lady at the company asking if I was still available this summer for the internship. Of course I said yes.

My question is, considering the president of this company is a GCC alumni, and considering that he interviewed me ON campus, do you think he would be less interested in me as an intern if he knew I was transferring to UPitt? And, if you think he would be less interested, should I tell him this information? I'm thinking I shouldn't because this is a great opportunity even if he wouldn't be interested in me in the future because I transferred schools.

What do you think?
 
Well, this guy is a Grove City alum, and interviews Grove City students exclusively on campus. Think that means he's only interested in hiring Grove City interns?
 
We think it is uninteresting to read. I actually posted without even reading the OP.

I did start to read it.. But got bored and didn't finish it.


 
I wouldn't volunteer the information about you tranferring schools. It may come up, down the road, but right not don't mention it. It's not pertinent (sp?) information and as long as your able-bodied and the position is open, go for it.

That's what I was thinking, I'm still an equally competent intern.

The devil's advocate in me would present this argument:

Naturally business and networking is run by who you know not how skiled you are. That's the nature of business. It's a "good ole boys" system that's run from the top. The counter argument could be that since it was an alumn and he came on campus looking for recruits, that, no matter how unspoken/unwritten the "law" is, he is looking primarily for someone from his campus. However wrong that is isn't for us to qualify ... it's simply an irrational request. If you volunteer the information now, you may either get the position revoked or not. I would lean more towards the latter because if he rescinded the offer SOLELY on the fact that you're transferring schools, it would involve too much introspection on his part and he would surely see how bigotted he was in his decision. Normally, people don't like to be confronted with their own prejudices. All in all, nothing good would come out of volunteering this information to your prospective boss.

Okay I think I agree with most of that.

Anyone else have a different opinion?
 
If I were in your position, I wouldn't mention UPitt at all and take the internship. You never know what could transpire during the time you are there, plus it's a great experience either way. You could be offered a position there and then at that point you would have to decide whether you wanted to stick around or transfer.

Yeah I don't have any intentions of mentioning it, since I know I can be a great employee either way. Plus I'm very local and he might like that. If he asks or otherwise brings it up, however, of course I'm not going to lie, and I'll just have to hope in that case that he doesn't care.

 
If he actually wanted you based on your interview, it shouldn't matter. But then again you don't need to volunteer any information if its not asked =P
