Please tell me how this works using this example.

I order my domain name through Namecheap.com. (www.mydomain.com)
then
I sign up for a host through RippleHost.com.

--------------

Then log into the ripplehost server and use their control panel to do what? Am I telling the Ripplehosts server that all requests to www.mydomain.com are going to be comming to the folder that has been alloceted to me on Ripplehosts server?

Sorry, I'm a n00b in this :)

Your going to need to point your domains nameservers in the right direction, ripplehost should give you that info, and than you can just ftp your site into your public_html directory(or whatever your public directory is).

Do you have AIM?

1) Wait for your "welcome to RippleHost" e-mail. Remember you have to sign up for their forums then go here to order and pay for your web hosting.

2) It should have two DNS name servers (ns5.ripplehost.com and ns6.ripplehost.com) go to namecheap.com login update your domain, modify your DNS name servers to what it shows in the welcome e-mail.

3) Wait 24 hours for propogation and you're done.

Remember when you FTP, all your web site files should go inside the public_html directory.

Ok, so what is happening is this:

- I get a folder on rippleshosts server.
- The nameservers for rippleshost are ns5.ripplehost.com and ns6.ripplehost.com
- I then use Namecheap to take the domain "www.mydomain.com" and associate it with ripplehosts nameservers.
- When someone goes to www.mydomain.com - they get forwarded to ripplehost nameservers ns5.ripplehost.com and ns6.ripplehost.com
- When the request gets to ripplehosts nameservers, the nameservers look to find which folder on thier system is supposed to handle "www.mydomain.com" requests and then the request ends up at my public_html directory

Is that right?

Anyway, thanks for all the help again. I don't know why I didnt ask this in my other thread. And no, I dont have AIM (I use MSN messenger).
