Question about Interior Color Choices

To all those aspiring home decorators out there (there has to be at least 1 or 2 on ATOT), I have a few questions:

1) Is it ok to have different colors in every room of the house? I have 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, 1 kitchen and 1 living room. We had orange in the living room, a "butterscotch" in the kitchen, and we were looking at purple in one of the bedrooms, and I wasn't sure that was ok.

2) Should I be matching to furniture and colors not in the room?

3) Is there a certain type of color you want in certain rooms? Warm in the living room, cool in the bathroom, cool in the bedroom, etc.?

I like pastels. The wife loves DARK brown (pretty much black) and a deep red with khaki.

I depends on how close the rooms are and how open the transition between the two are.

Personally I would not explicitly try to match, but just ensure you don't clash between rooms that don't have a great structural transition.
