Question about Intel CPU and DDRII

Hello, a friend of mine owns a Dell Dimension 8400, with a 3.4 GHz P4, that supports DDRII memory. The Dell specifications say that the system uses DDRII400 and 533. My question is this. If the RAM he is currently using is dual channel DDRII400, and he buys 2 matching sticks of DDRII533, will the 533 clock down on its own to match the DDR400, or would he just be asking for trouble? Thank you!

Memory can never be ran at different speeds in the same config. No matter what you use, the BIOS will always default all sticks to the same speed and timing of the worst performing DIMM.
