Question about installing unofficial Detonator drivers

I've installed different versions of official drivers a few times so I know the general procedure. I was feeling a little adventurous and thought I'd try some of the newer unofficial drivers. I tried a bunch of the files from Ctrl-Alt-Del.com but it seemed like many of them were incomplete - the install routine would ask for weird disks to be inserted, etc. I finally found a set of 12.60's that installed normally after trying 7.58, 7.78, and 8.03.

Is there a special way to install these drivers?

I have been testing many different Nvidia drivers for some time. I have a reference board made by VisionTek (GEForce 2 Ultra) so drivers are solely Nvidia, without the extra trouble of extra software. Remember I have Win98SE, so this applies only to my OS. The way I do it is: 1) be sure I have the new driver on my hard drive (as well as my existing driver if I need to get back to where I was)-- I keep them in a directory labelled "Video Driver Files" and I just happen to name each one according to version, such as 12.41, 12.60 etc-- 2) boot to Safe Mode 3)go to Start/Settings/Control Panel and uninstall the Nvidia Windows 95/98 Drivers 4) Restart 5) when it detects the card and asks the location of the driver, I click "Browse" and point it to the directory and the particular driver file I want, and then load it. I have done this about a dozen times without a hitch. There are other ways to do it, but this works flawlessly for me.
