Well the situation is that I found a KILLER deal on an M3 that is being sold in England, but its a must sell situation and I am very very interested in the car.

I saw pics of it and it drives on the left side of the car, as here in the states. however I am just wondering what all I would need to go through in order to be able to legally drive it in the states (ie. emissions, inspection, etc). it has a clean title, I have seen pics of it, and all that stuff.

i just want to know what type of stuff I would have to go through when I receive the car. He is going to pay the shipping as well.

EDIT: Well it's official and confirmed. it's a scam. here is the link to prove it:

Link

His auction yesterday was under the username michael_meyers_04. his auction looked IDENTICAL to that, only the auction was for a different color and what not. and now he's asking 11,500 but a different one. hah this is funny, anyway to report something like this?

I bet it's a scam.

And you most likely will not be able to register it in the US.

Edit: ok yeah this is 100% a scam. Ignore my comment about not being able to register it in the US.. the guy is definitely trying to pass it off as a us-spec car so it doesn't matter

why would I not be able to register it in the U.S.? And trust me, I am thinking more on the lines of it's being a scam as well. but for now I am trying to believe it. i know everyone else will think it's a scam because in all honesty it seems too good to be true.

but the way he wants payment is $2000 before he ships it, then when I get it and inspect it, I pay the rest to him. and i am going to pay the $2000 (if I purchase it) using a credit card, so that if it's fraud they will back me up.

About registering the car, I edited my post. In this situation the car could probably be registered in the United States. If it were a car that BMW made specifically for the uk or europe, then you would have a hell of a time registering it. But I'm pretty sure that the scammer is trying to pass it off as a us-spec.

I have seen this scam hundreds of times before. Here's whats similar

1. He's from England
2. He's offering a great deal for some bullshit reason involving needing money
3. He's offering to pay for shipping
4. He wants some kind of deposit first.

You are an idiot if you actually think this is legit.

so where have you seen this 100's of times before? just wondering if you have a link to that just for more evidence to convince me otherwise. like i said, i am going into this thing thinking its a scam, so no need for the name calling.

the killer deal was $10,000 total for a 2003 M3 w/8000 miles on it. so from those specs, i'm assuming it's a scam already, but since I only have to email the guy to get more information and what not, its only a few mins to do that.

i already requested him to take a specific pic of it and send it to me, of the VIN w/the news paper showing the date on it, so that I know he actually even has the car. trust me, i am going into this with the utmost caution, and i will know if its a scam before anything goes on. i already think its a scam, but like i said, its only emails that take 2 mins of my time, so i'm trying to dive deeper into it.

Stop wasting your time on this "deal." You're letting greed blind your common sense. I have no links to provide as I don't get my information from a particular web site. I'll be nice though and prove to you that it's a scam (even though I shouldn't have to). Tell him that you'll only send a deposit via www.escrow.com and watch has he ignores your e-mails from then on or tries to give a BS excuse.

He's trying to help ... and who the hell would send off their M3 for 2k and then expect for the rest of the money to be paid? Go ahead and send the money and try to dispute it with your credit card , see what happens.

Oh, and converting a car for driving in the US includes:

Changing bumpers, headlights and spedometers. You also have to engineering studies to demonstrate your new stuff meets US specs. My father-in-law used to do conversions for a living in Germany and I think he charged around $5000 for a Mercedes or Porsche

yea i did realize there would be some changes that must be made. however, even $15,000 for a 2003 m3 would be awesome, although still too good to be true.

My question is why doesn't he sell it in England? If there's an issue with the steering wheel on the left side, doesn't France drive that way? If he were legit, he wouldn't offer to ship across the ocean....it's too much trouble.

But you live in the US. Registering a car from another country that doesn't have a US title is incredibly difficult and expensive. And by difficult, I mean close to impossible. It's not as easy as cutting a check for $5000 or $10000 or $15000
