I have a digital cable box that i am listening atm on my sony wega 36'.If i want, i am able to see my picture in a 16:9 format. The image get thinner and i got a black bar on top and bottom of my screen ( see picture )

If i get a plasma tv.Will the image be like that with my digital cable box or the image will be stretch from left to right?(i just want to know if the 4:3 signal of my digital cable box will be converted to fill the screen like i can do with my sony television )

I am sure that your cable box, if it is HD, has a component output, so youd be able to set something in the cable box to output in 16:9 instead of 4:3.

Since you ahve that deature on your sony, how come you dont ahve the cable box setup to output in 16:9, and then just turn on the widescreen enhabcement when you need it?

I have an WEGA xbr, and I find that widescreen enhancement feature great for anamorphic DVDs.

yes it can, all HDTVs have the ability to "stretch" 4x3 programming to varying degrees of quality.

I watch all my cable stretched and it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

depends on the cable box - any 4x3 signal has to be stretched somehow, somewhere (receiver or display device)

Most modern boxes can do the video processing/stretching in the receiver.
