Question about IDE cables

Does the master device always have to be connected to the middle connector on the IDE cable? Would it make any difference if I have the master on the end connector and slave on the middle?

I've always put the master at the end of the cable. I know that with the 80wire ata100 cables the master is supposed to be at the end...

if you use "cable select" then the master needs to be at the end, but if you set it at master with the jumpers on the drive itself then it doesnt matter which connector you use

It doesn't really matter anymore....but before you could select, the master always went on the end.......but now you can select it, or do cable select....
