I've had my IBM 60GXP go bad (it was a replacement for 2 75GXP's back during that fiasco. at least this one lasted longer than those

). Anyways, after looking into getting it RMA'd I've noticed that IBM has sold their warranty services to Hitachi. So, if anyone has RMA'd a drive recently (specifically a 60GXP 60gb), did you get a Hitachi replacement drive or an IBM? If Hitachi, how are they reliability wise?

IBM sold the entire division, not just warranty. You'll get an IBM drive.

Lol. If the sticker says IBM or Hitachi, I don't know, but it'll be the same pieces inside.

I recently RMA'd a 75GXP through Hitachi. They sent me a remanufactured IBM 75GXP in return.

Well crapski. I was hoping to finally get rid of the IBM. Oh well. If I get another one back I might just sell it without installing and then put the money towards a newer drive.

I RMA'd my 60GXP about 3 months ago, and got another IBM 60GXP back in about 3 weeks. I was at least hoping for a larger drive, but got the same size drive in return. Oh well. It's running fine. No problems. Of course, I put it in my kids computer, and I have a WD special edition in mine now.

My Hitachi/IBM RMA Thread

I sent in a IBM 40GB 60GXP on March 27th, received by Hitachi on April 1st, received my replacement on May 5th. I will not be doing business with Hitachi anytime in the near future.

Good luck ;)

Similar experience here: sent in 75GPX and got back same - referb. Not sure what to do with it now. Don't trust it since this is my second RMA for the same origional purchase - three failed drives. Second RMA drive only lasted about two weeks. Major POS!!

Hitatchi won't cross ship. I just did a 75GXP RMA with them about a month ago. The replacement drive is finally on it's way to me right now.

I just received my RMA'ed IBM (now hitachi) drive on Tuesday. It took about 2 weeks and the drive was made in 2000.

We'll see when I get mine back. It hasn't been too long yet, but we'll see...

The returned defective hard disk drive was received and the replacement hard disk drive has not been shipped yet.

RMA issued on May 05, 2003

Defective hard disk drive received on May 14, 2003

Please be aware that you may experience a delay in receiving your replacement disk drive based on stock availability. If product is available, your replacement order will be processed within 14 working days after the receipt of your defective disk drive.

I'll let you know what I get back.

Just got back my RMA replacement for the 30GB 75GXP that I sent to Hitachi..........

It's a ratty, used 30GB 75GXP with a sticker on it that says "Servicable Used Part". It looks like it was used as a hockey puck.

I'm afraid to even spend the time to get it all set up because I know it's going to die again, it's just a matter of how soon.

I'd be calling them up pretty pissed off about that... if you got a drive back worse looking than what you sent in. you have a right to be mad. I would think so!!! heh

hmmm.. So, I have to RMA my IBM to Hitachi now? I have an 80GB 60GXP that's still running, but it's been making a high pitched sound for the last 6 months. I've been too lazy to go through RMA process. Also, I don't know if it's reason for RMA. Also, I have to backup and give a reasonably priced place use for shipping..

That's insane. And if it's beat up, you can't even sell it for jack. :( (I'll give ya $5 for it. LoL)

I ended up getting a newly manufactured drive as replacement for my RMA last month. I guess it just depends on what they have in stock when you send yours in for replacement. I haven't taken mine out of the static bag yet, I'm planning on putting it up for sale next week over in the FS forum.
