Question about HS/F choice for a 750 Duron

Hi,

I have the stock HS/F combo that came with my non OC 750 Duron and I'm getting sick of hearing the stock Coolermaster fan whine. From what I can tell, the stock 60 mm fan is rated at 21 cfm and 36 dba.

I would like to add a HS like a Swiftech MCX370 and then use one of Adda's quiet fans. What fan can I get away with here? They have a high speed fan rated at 23 cfm that is 32 db. They have medium speed fan rated at 18 cfm and 24 db and a low speed fan rated at 13 cfm and 16 db.

Naturally, I'd like to go with the queitest fan, but I don't know if it's going to be enough even if the Swiftech HS is much better than the stock Coolermaster.

Which fan should I go with for a non OC Duron? Should I look at a better solution for a HS? My goal obviously is to make my system as quiet as I can get away with.

Also, I have been looking at the new Alpha 8045, but I don't think it will fit on the Gigabyte board that I have. Plus, it's a little out of the price range that I wanted to spend anyway.

I don't expect to have a 750 Duron forever and I want to look to the future as well. If anyone here can give me some advice, it would be most appreciated!

TIA,

Sal

Pick up a Thermalright SK-6 and then either put a very quiet 60mm fan on it or pick up the quiet 80mm Sunon and turn it diagonally like a diamond, and you'll get good cooling for that CPU...doesn't kick out much heat at all.

Did you consider to put a voltage controller on you fan circuit and just clokc down your fan, untill the noise is bearable and temp has not climbed too far? A little adjustable resistor will do the trick.
Or look up an Alpha 6035 HSF in the for sale/trade forum - it was good enogh for non-overclocked Athlons up to 1.4GHz, but since a lot of newer XP and MP athlons and 1GHz Duron, are actually outputting even less heat, you won't need a monster like 8065 in the future. FWIW.
