Question about how things work

How do mods pick what stuff gets locked and what stuff doesn't get locked? I mean we see a thread about a woman about to commit adultery, another thread about tampons (which is something I really don't want to discuss), and other such threads, but stuff where people talk about a site getting shut down gets locked. Obviously because it's a torrent site, people will use that as an excuse, but isn't cheating on your husband just as bad as if not worse than downloading some stuff off the internet?

Are there set guidelines or is it each mod makes his/her own decision as to what stays and goes? I just don't get it sometimes

Another part of it is what the website can get in legal trouble for (piracy) and what they can't (adultery, feminine products, etc)

Finally, there's more than one mod, and different people have different priorities.

Well I know, that's why I said that about those topics, but how can they get in trouble for us posting about it? We were just discussing it got shut down and it sucks. They weren't harboring torrents or anything, I don't understand it.

The line always seems blurry to me and I do wish there were more set guidelines for posting.

i like to think of the mods as guardian angels.
and we each have a guardian angel mod assigned to us.
in fact.i like when the mods smack me....i wish i had a real life mod..the cop avatr floating in front of me as i go about my daily routine...making sure i arrive at the right decision.

You don't talk about warez on Anandtech. You just ... don't discuss them. :)

It wasn't an issue, it was a question. And I didn't want them to take it in the wrong way. Had I posted it there, the mods would think I was trying to undermine them or something, and I'm not. Just curious about what rules they have when it comes to locking/deleting.
