Question about hot plug hdd

I've recently needed to used my case's hot-swap/hot-plug bay but when I tried initially no go. I had to reboot for Windows to see my drive.

I have a MSI fm2-a85XA-GD65 motherboard and I can't find much information on weather it can or cannot use hot-plug... Please help.

Thanks

Is AHCI turned on? If not, you will need to turn it on, and enable it for Windows (requires a reg hack prior to enabling it with 7 and 8; for Vista or older I have no idea).

HDDs that do not support hot-plugging (only very old ones) will work with AHCI, but can't be hot-swapped.

Once that is done, the Safely Remove Hardware icon should become a permanent fixture in your system tray.
