Question about high-performance computer in smaller mid-size case

I like the understated look, but my idle seems a little too high (am I wrong?), plus I'm getting random BSOD's - here are the specs:

ANTEC NSK4480
Corsair 520VX

Intel Q6600 - Currently at 3Ghz <-- CORETEMP shows 46 degrees IDLE <---
Noctua NH-C12P

BFG 680iSLI
4Gb Mushkin PC2-6400
WD 640AAKS - Mounted in second 5.25'' bay
Razer Barracuda AC-1

BFG 8800GT OC 512MB with Zalman CU-900 <-- I have second one but haven't SLI'd yet

80mm Noctua Intake
120mm Noctua exhaust
2x 120mm Noctua side panel, blowing inwards


This rig will be at load all the time, both CPU and GPU(s), for Folding.

Does the temp of 46 sound right? Also I plan to take it higher once I fix the BSOD issue.

thats what my E8400 idles at. granted i have a shitty cooler on it. your fine as far as i can tell.

Well if your BSODing then you need to find out what the problem is. First you need to bring the system back to stock and make sure your not gettting the BSOD there. If you are then you need to run Memtest to make sure the RAM isn't the cause. Random BSOD will only translate into dropped WU as you get into heavy folding.

Temp seems okay (it's high by many people's standards for a q6600 idle... but well within the limits of the processor). What sort of voltage are you running through that quad?

I definitely suggest doing what Mpilch suggested above (go to stock speed and find the problem). There are plenty of things that can cause BSODs other than overclocking (and it's not like 3ghz is a huge jump for that chip). Make sure you are stable and working at 2.4ghz first.

It appears as if my BSOD problem has something to do with the playback of media, regardless of clockspeed. Whenever I play some files via Zune or WMP it gives it to me. Sometimes audio, but usually video.

I'll keep working on that, and oh yeah it is at stock voltage (can't remember) -- all I did was adjust the FSB...
