Question about HDTV cable

So I just got my DVR hi-def box from Cox cable to go with my new 50" Samsung 720p DLP TV.

The HD channels look pretty good, but I know for a fact that it is running 1080i. Is there a way to force 720p or is it dependent on what Cox is sending me through the cable?

EDIT: Using HDMI cable from box to TV.

I think you'll do best with what is natively sent.

The extra conversion is likely to degrade your signal - not that you'll likely be able to tell, as it will still be pretty darn good.
