question about hdtv and progressive scan

ok, so thinking about getting a hdtv, been seeing a lot of dvd players with progressive scan. i know what it is, I'm looking at a tvthat can accept 720p signal.

so would i have to get a new dvd player w/ p.scan or can my htpc do it too? I'm using a gainward geforce4 Ti4200 tv/ultra. so dvi to dvi, would it put out a p or i signal?

thanks

As far as I know, DVI from PC to DVI on a TV isnt cut and dry, just cause the connectors are the same.

You should be able to get a transcoder though.

Almost ALL HDTVs sold today have built in line doublers. Many are as good or better than what you will find in DVD players. For most people, a progressive scan DVD player is superfluous.

BTW, I'm guessing the TV you're looking at is a Samsung DLP? If so, they have very good line doublers in them, better than most DVD players.
