With a cable box you can watch HD and VOD (Video on Demand). Anyone know what typew of speeds VOD streams at. For example, my cable internet is at 3megs....is the stream faster or slower, or can they even be compared do to compression algorithms on the VOD side? Food for thought, thanks.

Uncomressed, they use:

720p: ~1.5Gbps
1080p: ~3Gbps

Then using compression they get it down to 19Mbps (at least for CableTV anyways)

On the other hand, WMV-HD has brought it down to 6Mbps at a very respectale quality

That said, the H.264 video codec will make it all better:)

I've messed around with it encoding and evaluating, and it is quite promising. It's murder on your CPU though:(
