Question about having 2 different PCI-E vid card in one system

Right now I am using an ASRock 939SLI32-eSATA2 mobo with 2 7800 GT cards in SLI (which sucks cuz of the ULI cap that Nvida put on the drivers), Anyway, I usually disable SLI and run one card so I can use more up to date drivers. I want to get rid of Both Nvidia cards but am waiting for ATI DX10 cards to appear. In the meantime I want to go back to ATI and was wondering if I can use an ATI PCI-E card in the secondary slot and one 7800 GT card in the other and just switch monitor cables or just connect one card via DVI and the other via VGA. Is this feasable? Would I have some HW conflict? Would games work properly? I know that when I disable the SLI and/or remove drivers and install older SLI capable drivers that my chipset will work in games will ask me to choose a card. Would this set up work? Thanks in advance.
