Question about harddrives and controller cards

Okay, I have an Abit KT7a raid mobo and a Promise ata 100 card. Now I have two 60 GB hard drives. If I use the promise car would I get better performance. Also can I set up my boot harddrive on the promise card, or does it have to be on the main board? Would I get better performance if the drives were on sepearte channels?
