hey guys, i am building my computer and just getting ready to install the
operating system , (win 98)
when it says "invalid media type reading drive c:". Im using just a single
hard drive, and single dvd drive. the hard drive is recognized as a master
when it boots up, and so is the cd rom drive, i was even able to use
"fdisk" to partition it. But as soon as i go in to the c: directory and then
type any command it gives me that invalid media type error, and when i type
setup to start the OS installlation, it freezes when it starts to say"
windows requires 723434 bytes of space". I tested 3 diferent hard drives,
and still the error. what is wrong ?

format c: /s

remember the "/s" (w/out the "s) to include the system files.

Or if the hdd is a retail box, use the included boot disk that came with it.

To second the above suggestions.

Boot from a boot disk, floppy drive.
On the A:\ prompt, Fdisk. If you have more than one partition make sure you set the primary partition active.
Reboot again with the boot disk.
On the A:\ prompt type Format c: /s
When format on the primary is complete. Continue formatting the rest of the partitions (if you have more than one)except this time you do not use the "/s" switch like you did on the C drive.
When all partitions are formatted, then Change directory to your CD-Rom drive and type setup. You're on your way to Windows.
