Question about hair growth

How come when you cut/shave hairs they grow back to only a certain length? Why don't they keep getting longer?

yeah but even when you cut it off and shave it off it still comes back. Have you ever tried chopping off your arm? It doesn't regenerate itself like hair does.

I was talking about DNA. DNA tells your arm to stop growing, just like it tells your hair to stop growing.

ohhh...so it can tell my hair to regenerate itself too?

i think the hair keeps growing, but at a certain length it starts to fall out? so it just appears like your hair has stopped growing?

Basically, she's asking why, for example, your leg hairs don't appear to get any longer..

But once you shave them, they happily grow.

I think the answer is that the hairs only get a certain length before they end their cycle and fall out.

AFAIK, most hair follicles are on something like a 3 month schedule.

well.. they dont fall out persay. but as they grow longer, they're more likely to be naturally pulled out by moving legs across one another, brushing against things, etc.

It doesn't?

<--- Tries glueing chopped off arm back on

Hair can only live for a certain amount of time before they died & break off.

Everything died & reborn, because that is the cycle of life.

All hair below your neck will only grow to a specific length, no matter how often you cut it.

Facial hair and hair on your head however will grow to an infinite length..

Myth: If left uncut, my hair will just keep growing and growing.

Fact: No. Length depends on your hair's natural cycle, which is unique to you. The longer the hair's growth phase, the longer the hair will grow. If you have a naturally long growth phase, you can grow your hair well below your wait. If you have a naturally shorter growth phase, your hair will be shed before it grows that long and only grow to a certain length. The duration of your particular growth phase is based on hereditary and is affected by nutrition.

Not entirely true that hair only live for 3 months.
Most humain hairs on the top of their head live much longer than 3 months (usually grow about 1/2 inch per month)...normally between 2-6 years cycles. Peach fuzz hairs or hairs below your heard life cycle are shorter than the hairs on your head therefore the length tend to be shorter.

Haha this... is.... a......
