Question About Gun Permit

Ok, so I've thought about getting a permit and handgun for a while, but haven't actually gotten one yet. My question, then, is this:

I am a legal resident of Georgia, but currently live in Louisiana for graduate school. If I do decide to apply for a license to carry a handgun, am I supposed to apply in Georgia, Louisiana, or does it matter? I do know that apparently LA honors GA permits (and vice-versa), but beyond that, I'm not quite sure.

Thank ya.

If they have reciprocity it probably doesn't really matter, but since you're a Georgia resident I'd go with that one.

That's what I was planning on, but thought I'd ask just in case there was some obscure law/penalty/whatever somewhere.

HappyPuppy: I don't live in a shytty neighborhood, no, but have heard a few different stories of friends apartments being broke into. But beyond that, I'm seriously contemplating going into law enforcement (or something similar) once I finish my degree, and being familiar with firearms ahead of time couldn't hurt. I don't actually plan on walking around with the thing very often.
