Question about good DVD player and features...

Okay, my current Samsung DVD NOUN player is breaking down and skipping stuff quite frequently. So I'm in the marketing for a new player and am currently looking at a Sony model.

A few questions.
1. I need a player that can play back a lot of DVD+-RW/R for home movies.
2. Does Progressive Scan make a difference on a standard (non-HDTV) TV? (WIll be using component inputs.)
3. Does 3/2 pulldown make a difference on above type of TV?

Thanks!

1. This would just take some research....unfortunetly i dont' have enough time to do it for you otherwise I would 🙁

2. No it really doesn't. You will not see much of a difference between it and a "non progressive scan" dvd player but just about all of them are progressive scan now. Many of the cheaper players that have it (80-120 dollars) aren't true progressive scan meaning their processors aren't up to par with the better players.

3. Yes it does.3/2 pull down In other words a DVD player with good supported 3/2 pull down makes for a nicer movie.

Thanks for the help!

I think I may get the Philips DVP642 because it seems to have broad compatibility and apparently it supports 3/2 pulldown. For some reason it's not stated on their website though.

I don't think any modern players are going to have issues with burned discs, even my two year old players deal fine with burned media.
