question about gladiator

Is there something different about the way the battle scenes were shot in this film? I don't know anything about video technology, but the scenes look really sharp like it was done with high speed film.

they use high iso speed and the hues and contrats were messed with it was quite impressive really had the surrealistic effect such as braveheart had.
