Question about getting a job in a local computer store...

I am getting a job this coming summer and I would like to work in a local computer shop. I just have a few questions though.

I am getting my A+ certification this winter; do I really need any others at this point?
Will it be hard to get a job at a one of the computer stores considering I'll only be 16 and have no prior work experience?
How well do they pay on average? 🙂))

I have called some of the computer stores around here and all of the employees are retards who know NOTHING about computers. I called a month after the duron came out and only 1 store (which is an hour and a half away, so they don't even count) knew what the hell a duron was and they didn't even have it in stock. 🙂

If you have any other advice, please tell me. 🙂

Thanks! 😀

eh depends on that person's speciality say they know unix but dont pay attention to hardware they mite call you an idiot if you dont know VI or pico!!!

i'd say that during the interview, show them that you know what you're talking about. tell them that you keep on top of all of the latest technologies, and can easily find out about most any product(which is mostly true, just come here and ask 🙂) i am hoping to get one in the summer(as hockey season ends then and i'm out of a job 😛) and i'll be 16 in march. i will have semester 1 of my ccna completed by then, so hopefully i'll be able to find a job 🙂 plus making the intranet pages for our school board with 9 other people in gr. 6 should help considerably 🙂

the part about getting a job in a computer store....

don't be an arrogant bastard and pretend u know everything.....

they'll probably make u sell crap to people which sux....that means u get paid lower hourly and
basically your pay is based on commision. Just be real nice and try to learn as much $hit as possible
then ditch them and make $30/hour in a high tech company.

don't worry about A+ certification...with the $ u make at the store u should become MCSE certified.
A+ certification is a joke.

Beast1284, are you serious?
I heard it was really easy if you've been around computers and know a lot.

Although I cannot speak for the revised CompTia exams, A+ is not difficult. To me, the hardware portion was easier than DOS/Windows. Both exams are relatively easy.

A+ is fairly useful if you want hardware experience.
Nothing really useful.
I dont really care to know the pin outs of 4bit serial ports.
Just show them that you know your stuff.
If its a small company that will mean something. Showing that you haev skill.
When it comes to corporations you need the experience and the certs.
Every job looks at your resume, and your job experience.
The interview is where its won.
Ya have to present yourself and show that you can handle yourself.
And expect the world to be 99% COMPLETLY computer illiterate. Expert computer users are a MASS minority.
Your not going to learn much more at a computer service store that you havnt already read on anandtech.
Good luck. And dont let the corporate duldrum get you down.
🙂
