Question about GeForce 7800GT video card heat

My GPU temperature reaches 61C under full load with the NV Silencer 5 rev. 3 fan running at full speed. At idle, the temperature is around 42C. So I know for a fact based on research that those temperature are in good range.

When my video card is under load though, it feels really hot when I open the case and touch it with my finger. Does that mean some parts of it are too hot when under load, even though the GPU temperature is reported to be only 61C under full load?

Not just the back enbd of the car by the GPU feels hot, but the tiny RAM chips on the backside of the card near the PCI-E power connector feel really hot in that it hurts to put your finger on it without quickly moving moving your finger off of it. Does this mean some of my video card is running too hot? It doesn't get any errors when under load, but it just concerns me that it is hot enough to be unable to touch it without feeling like your finger is too hot.

Should I be concerned, or is it totally normal for something like a video card to feel hot when you tocuh it when it is under full load.

Just to note, the other side of the video card near the VGA port does not feel uncomfortably hot to my hand when I touch it. Just to the tight of the GPU near the PCI-E power connector does it feel relaly hot when under load.

Well the voltage regulators will get really hot so will some ram chips. If u think its too hot, (maybe measure the temp) just chuck a ram sink on it..

How hot is too hot? Is it normal that the voltage regulators will be so hot on the backside of the video card that it will hurt to lay your finger on it for too long? Or does that mean they are too hot?

Has it your card been working reliably under intensive load without any errors for a long time by now?

intensive load, if u mean those chips on teh back, they are always hot especially in games and my card has never faulted due to heat or anythings.. its never had errors ever for any reason

usually cards fail at 70C or higher, but it kind of depends. you should probably get some ram sinks to be safe.

My 7800GT idles at 48*C and about 78*C 3xRepeat of 3dMark06 This is with the Zalman VF900 at the quietest setting.

My PC is not the coolest running as i have changed out all my parts for YateLoon and running them 950rpms and my CPU fan is a Panasonic at 7V.

I have yet to have one problem with over heating EVER!
