Question about G1 and bluetooth in general

The G1 has mono bluetooth headset capability and not stero *now*. Is this a radio issue with hardware or a ROM or software?

It's a software issue in the bluetooth stack.

It's caused by this:

See the section near the bottom under Bluetooth API. Google didn't include the API with the final release of Android and this meant that handset makers had to code up the stack themsevles in a small amount of time. They got the hands-free part working, but that's about it. It will be fixed in a future release.
