question about future-ability of Epox 8K7A

uhh...im kinda confused about this 3 phase, 2 phase power thingy...

like...will the 8K7A b able to run the palamino chips? or how about AMD chips after palamino?

cuz they say they're using Socket-A until the end of 2002...soo...im hoping for a board that will last me until AMD switches CPU interface things...

thanks,
-eric

While it does not officially support it yet, the Epox works just fine with the Palamino's. The three phase power thing was only rumored to affect Palamino support, but it seems a good two phase works just fine...

Take a look at the new BIOS features

Updated CPU ratio table for new Athlon CPU.
Removed EPA logo.
Upgraded HighPoint 370A bios (EP-8K7A+ only).
Added a new BIOS item to tune up system performance ("Normal" to set as default).
Upgraded AMD CPU string table.
Upgraded CPU instruction SSED.
Added PhoneixNet support.

So, with the new BIOS it most likely supports the new Athlon4/MP

aight yo 🙂

thanks...good to kno i have upgradeability 🙂

any one have any idea about Epox's compatibility with future AMD chips? will the socket-A compatibility do it? and will this 2 phase stuff b ok? oorr...is that too far into the future...hehe

on a side note, would the asus a7a266 (ali magik...) future better than the epox board?

thanks,

I actually suspect many of the good ddr baords available can support the palomno with a bios fix by the manufacturers...

Hopefully someone will test this theory here shortly....take one of the mp chips available (palominos anyways) and see if it works...

I exclusively use this epox board for my ddr systems...

As a company Epox seems to be ahead of the game in most aspects including release of a sblive bug fix far before other companies.

yeah, the latest BIOS update for my 8KTA3 (their KT133A mobo) gives me 14x multiplier support.. not bad!

Epox has great BIOS support..

btw, take a look Anands KT133A roundup for a fairly good comparison between KT133A motherboards.. ASUS appears to be the big winner here, performance wise.
