Question about friend's bf

My gf and I are going to dinner tonight with our friend (a female) and her boyfriend, whom we are friends with by default. He is very good guy, but he is still a friend via her.

THE QUESTION:

Both the boyfriend's and my birthday just passed, and I know she will have a gift for me. Should we have something for him?

Yes, you say that she will have a gift for you and though I am not usually the person that gives a gift just because I got one I think that applies here.

You did say you like the guy and he is a friend, I have friends I met through other friends but they are still friends.

what do you mean? If everyone is giving him something, just get a plain generic gift, if not, don't stand out as it might be awkward.

Its only the 4 of us going to dinner, so there is no major gift exchanging.

Obligatory gifts are sucky. You don't know him well, there should be no reason to give him a gift.
