When I do a fresh install or a reinstall Windows automatically installs the drivers for my mobo. This includes everything under device manager under system devices. How does this happen? Does windows contain drivers for every mobo? Any info on this would be helpful, thanx.

i'm pretty sure that windows gets this info from the cmos; if you think about it, the computer can access disk drives when windows isnt installed, so clearly there is some info stored on the mobo that tells windows what controllers exist.

pretty sure i have it right...hope that helps

I think there is some IC on the mobo or the device itself that contains some code to be read by OS. Like the cd-rom has
a firmware to be identified by OS to allow the drivers to be installed and windows normally has most popular drivers o its cd.
